Almost, Maine
.
Do you have a fever for winter weather? Well, Brooke High School’s Theater II class has the prescription, and it is their performance of the winter-based romantic comedy Almost, Maine by John Cariani, which will be performed March 1st – 3rd at 7:00 PM.
Almost, Maine takes place on a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter. All is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in nd out of love in unexpected ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But, the bruises heal and the hearts mend – almost – in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.
Tickets will be sold at the door: $7 for adults and $5 for children twelve and under. However, if you are a Brooke High School student, you only have to pay $3 to come and enjoy the show on opening night.
The Theater II class, led by director and class facilitator Nathan Marshall, hs been working on this production since the middle of November. Under Marshall’s guidance, students selected their play, selected a student director (Cody Chapman), selected a student stge manager (Jessica Cook), casted the play with in-class talent, and even contributed with the set design and publicity for the show.
“This is really the culminating effort of our scholastic theater program,” says Marshall of the production. “Over the two-year theatre education process here at Brooke, students re exposed to real professional theatre, from the local area all the way to Pittsburgh, Broadway, and even London’s West End. This effort, as in all we do, is our attempt to display professional quality theater at a high school level.”
Still, how are students responding to Marshall’s unique approach to theater education? Brooke High School senior, Shannon Reardon, who plays the role of Gayle in Almost, Maine, says, “Our class has been together for two years now. Not only are we excited for the public to see all of the hard work we’ve put forth, but we’re also excited to celebrate this production as a family, because that’s what we are in this class: a family.”
The evening will open with comedic scenes from the Theater I classes, and all the proceeds from the show will benefit the Brooke High School Theater Education Fund and the Brooke High School Drama Club.
