Club of the Week

Written by Angela Tober

Have you ever imagined yourself as an educator of some sort? Do you like to take control? Would you, or could you see yourself informing the uninformed? Its things like that that members of the FEA (Future Educators of America) engage in at Brooke High.
The FEA program at our school promotes leadership skills, and helps young adults understand the responsibilities that come with being a leader. They are the source of, and participate in many fundraisers that we have around the county. They have a knack for community services, and enjoy helping out others in general. Every year, Mrs. Lucero and her FEA program raise money and buy toys to donate to the Salvation Army, along with countless other deeds.
They attend many competitions varying from making lesson plans to making speeches, to job interviews. In fact, last year a member of the FEA from Brooke High placed second in state and had the privilege of going to nationals, where he came in third place out of the entire United States, Germany, and Puerto Rico, actually making him an international champion.
If you would like to join Mrs. Lucero’s FEA program, you must first sign up for her careers in education class, for that is the only way to participate. If you would like to participate nationally you must pay certain fees. In her classroom, you can look forward to learning new ways to learn, new ways to teach. Mrs. Lucero understands that not everybody learns the same way; she appoints to teach in multiple ways. Do not expect to sit down every day just to hear a lecture and answer questions. Just be prepared to change the way you think, and possibly the way other people think of you.
“Education may not be considered a ‘cool’ profession, but you know… There is no other profession without it.” -Diane Lucero
