Ms. Duvall: “I wish you the best of luck in whichever paths you life will lead you. I’d like to wish you all the best of luck in your futures. I’ll leave you with a quote from Mark Twain: ‘Twenty years from now, you’ll be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did So, throw off the bowlines Sail away from the safe harbor Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.’”

Mr. Moore: “‘A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive, and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done.’ This quote from Vince Lombardi is the best advice I could ever give to the leaving senior class Goodbye, and good luck.”

Mrs. Perkins: “Follow your heart. Don’t waste your time on something you do not truly enjoy. Life is too short.”

Mrs. Malinky: “This is my first year teaching seniors, so I’m sure it’s going to be very hard seeing them leave. I wish all my students the best of luck with their futures after BHS.”

Mrs. Larter: “This is a great class. I know they will do well in whatever they decide to do. I have a good feeling about this group, and I think they will go far in their careers and in their lives. I hope that they study hard, use what they have learned, and make me proud. Best of luck in all that they do!”

Mrs. Keener: “Congratulations and good luck in what you decide to do. Remember that I am always here and am more than happy to help you if you are struggling. You are always welcome back. I like to hear from my students about how everything is going, and I encourage you to keep in touch. I always like hearing back from my former high school students, as they tell me which lessons I taught have or haven’t been useful in their college courses. Keep up the good work, and keep in touch.”

Mr. Taylor: “Peace out. Go far away from me.”

Mrs. Lanigan: “The time to move on has come; and so, I wish you goodbye, good luck, and a good life Don’t let it all pass you by. You have only one life to live, so make it good. Hold tight to your ideals. They are all you have. Follow the advice of those that are wise, but more than that, the ‘still, small voice’ within that guides you. Do so, and everything will work out as it’s meant to in the end. Believe that; it’s true.”

Every year, the French section of the foreign language department hosts a luncheon for its current students. The banquet includes a French meal prepared by chef Rocco Basil, commentaries from Ms. McGheean and other influential speakers, and a brief ceremony honoring those who have achieved academic excellence in their French classes.

This year, nine students were inducted into the French National Honor Society, a nation-wide group that recognizes its members proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking of the French language. The inductees must maintain an “A” average in their French class and must be enrolled in French III or higher.

The students who met the requirements for this year’s French National Honor Society selection are, from French III, Michelle Woodstuff, Alyssa Neville, Alyssa Rice, Amanda Loughrie, Sydney Johnson, Ashley Clutter, Emily Hone, and Sarah Young; from French IV, Ali Crawford.

The inductees favorite part of the luncheon? “The food,” says Michelle Woodstuff.

When we first arrived, we went to theHolocaustMuseum; however, due to some technicalities we could only tour the bottom half of the museum. After we were all through at theHolocaustMuseum, we walked to the Washington Monument. From there we split up into smaller groups and went our separate ways to explore the city.

Some groups went to other museums, walked around the Nation Mall, and even walked all the way toArlingtonCemeteryand the White House. It was a great experience to be able to see Washington D.C. and get to look at all the memorials and monuments created in honor of such wonderful and inspiring people.

This past week featured sports action from the Brooke Bruin softball and girls’ tennis teams.

The softball team took a trip to Moundsville on Tuesday to face the John Marshall Monarchs. The Bruins could not get their bats going, and defensive troubles did not help. The Monarchs went on to win the game by the score of 14-2.

On Wednesday, the Bruins went up against University. Although the Bruins lost the game 6-1, the girls’ offense had improved from the previous game. Courtney Rine had a double, which would end up being the Bruins’ only extra-base hit. Cassi Camilletti, Kristen Ewing, Marena Cline, and Katie O’Connell each had a single in the losing effort.

After a loss toMorgantownon Thursday, the Bruins rebounded with a solid win againstWeirHigh School. However, the girls lost both games of a double header on Saturday. The 6-14 Lady Bruins look to pick up some wins this week.

The girls’ tennis team was scheduled to have a busy week, but Mother Nature had other plans. The girls had matches scheduled for Monday through Thursday. However, the first three were cancelled. The match on Thursday was against St. Clairsville. It was not the best day for the Bruins. St.Clairsville swept the Bruins 7-0. Thehigh pointfor Brooke came when Kameron Miller, the 2 seed singles player for Brooke, lost her match by the score of 8-5. In addition, the 1 seed doubles team of Lauren Shelton and Kameron Miller lost 8-4. The girls’ tennis team looks to rebound with four tough matches this week.

The Sadie Hawkins Dance for Brooke High School was held on March 30th at the Brooke High gymnasium. This is usually students’ favorite dance of the year, for the simple fact that they are comfortable. A lot of you already know that this dance differs from the others in many ways. This is the only dance where instead of beautiful gowns and heels, the students wear matching apparel. Also, the girl asks and pays for the guy, which is exciting and refreshing for the guy.

Some history behind this dance some may not be aware. Sadie Hawkins Day actually fell on a given day in November. The unmarried women of Dogpatch got to chase the bachelors and “marry up” with the ones the caught. The event was introduced in a daily comic which ran on November 15, 1937 and seemed to stick.

For the past couple weeks, many Brooke High students have dug deep in their pockets to muster up five dollars in order to attend the annual Brooke High Talent Show. On Thursday March 30th, students scurried into the auditorium and claimed a good seat. With high expectations at stake, nineteen performers occupied the stage and drew the attention of all those in attendance.

The show was put on twice: once for the student body during eighth period and then again at 7:00 PM for the public and any students who would like to return. The winners were announced at the end of the show for the public. Justin Brown, who danced, and Kassidy Reitter, who sang while playing her guitar, shared the first place title. In second place were Brent Kimball and Avery Drake, who did an outstanding blues performance with both singing and dancing. Last, but not least, was Hillary Snyder taking third with a salsa dance routine.

The talent show is a time to see all of the hidden and different talents the students that surround you everyday acquire. The 2012 Talent Show was a success and I enjoyed every minute of it.

March 23, 2012, was the opening day of a highly anticipated movie. At midnight on Thursday March 22, The Hunger Games was on the big screen. If you are not an avid book reader you would probably just think this was an interesting movie, but for those of you who spent days and nights reading the books this was even more exciting. On opening weekend it made an outstanding 155M, blowing away the competition. It came close to the money made by The Dark Night and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. It even made more than Twilight.

Critics and audiences alike gave the movie high reviews, and it scored well above everyone’s expectations. The common theory for why it made more than Twilight is the appeal it has to the male audience. The male audience wants to go see it for all the action and gore they do not care about the romance aspect of it. Whereas twilight is more romantic, aka a chick flick. I found the movie to be a little off from the book, but what movie based on a book isn’t. It was never dull or boring and the director did the best he could have done.

All in all The Hunger Games had a great opening weekend and I encourage all to go see it. The next movie in The Hunger Games trilogy, Catching Fire, is to come out November 22.
