Being Human

Written by Michelle Woodstuff, Author

On January 16th, 2012, Being Human, a series on Syfy, started its second season.  The basic plot of the series is about a ghost, a werewolf, and a vampire living together as roomates.  The ghost’s name is Sally.  She was killed by her fiance in the house in which they all reside.  Josh, the werewolf, was going to have the perfect life as a doctor living with his wife when he was bitten.  In order to protect his family, he left without a word.  The vampire Aidan is about 220 years old.  He was turned during the Revolutionary War and was forced to leave his family.  Every day Aidan tries to fight his desire for blood.

Despite the show’s inherent cheesiness, it’s actually decent.  Last season mostly mostly demonstrated how the trio met and the trials they faced.  Josh ends up falling in love with a human girl, and together they were going to have a baby.  Aidan’s creator still had control of him throughout most of season 1; Aidan’s story is mostly about becoming free of his creator.  Sally learns to live as a ghost.  She learns how to teleport, how to talk to living people, and how to deal with her fiance.

Season two picks up right after Josh’s baby died.  In a scuffle while he was transformed at the end of season 1 he scratched Nora, his girlfriend.  Just one scratch can turn a person.  Aidan became the leader of the vampires in Boston after the death of Bishop, his creator.  And Sally discovers that it’s possible to be reincarnate in a baby.  Give this show a try: it has humor, lots of romance, and enough fantastical happenings to intrigue practically anyone.
